Role of System Analyst

System analysts came into existence with the industrial revolution.

Despite the present and future technological capacities, for its power and utility the credit goes to man. Professionals define the applications and problems solved by computers.

Computer programmers and technicians implement the technology on well-defined applications and problems.

With the help of information technology we can collect and store data in large quantity, can act on commercial transactions with speed and accuracy and can arrange for relevant information for management on time.

Between those who need the computer system and those who are well-acquainted with this technology, there is a gap which is filled by the system analysts.

In ordinary terms, system analysts are those people who understand the trade as well as computing.

The system analyst studies the transaction problems and potentials and then turns the commercial and information related requirements of that transaction into computer based information system and computer applications which are implemented by com-puter programmers and other computer experts.

The system analyst simplifies the study of the transaction problems and requirements and ensures how he could solve the business system or the information technology problems and improve the conditions of the business.

According to the Oxford's dictionary the man who verifies the facts and gives his opinions on them, is called an analyst.

A system analyst is a solution seeker to the system oriented problems.

Most of the system analysts use some variations of system trouble shooting which is called system development life cycle.

System analysts are those people who interact with the management and the user on their own levels, make a document of their experiences, understand the problem before providing the solution, think before they speak, simplify system development, understand the goals and purposes of the institutions, help find out solutions to the problem by applying better tools and enjoy the working of people.

A system analyst is an agent of change. He informs the management and the user about the features of the new technology in context of the business of that organisation.

A system analyst doesn't normally write a program but he should possess enough experience of creating a programme and to some extent he must have authority on it, for the system analysts are the principal link between the user and the computer programmers.

Most of the system analysts are at home in more than one programming languages. Generally, Visual Basic, C, C++ etc. are the main programming languages.

A system analyst takes a serious business problem, divides it into small segments, analyses all its aspects and then creates a developed system to solve that problem.

An analyst should also possess the ability of positive consideration on the alternative solutions of the problems and the necessities.

The major part of the job of a system analyst is to meet people, talk to them, listening to their problems and to understand their necessities.

To be a successful system analyst one should have extraordinary knowledge of English and his writing as well as speaking ability should be great.

The work of a system analyst is of public relations. He has to relate with many people on the organisational or company level. This is possible only when the whole person-ality of the system analyst is extrovert.

A system analyst should be capable enough to adopt himself to such challenges.

A system analyst while designing the system a particular company, becomes the most important person of that company.

The personal ability of a successful system analyst is important. To analyse the present and probable work of a system, a system analyst generally, raises a team of technical experts.

An analyst should have the capability of presentation.

Formal and Informal education counts much for the knowledge of the system analyst but work experience in this field counts more.

Programmers, undoubtedly, are not the only candidates for the job of a system ana-lyst. Anybody who possesses analytical skills and has extensive knowledge of certain systems, and is eager to study and learn can be a probable candidate for this post.

A system analyst can work as a good business specialist project manager, information system manager, database administrator, telecommunications specialists. In fact the opportunities for a system analyst are limitless.
